Artemus’ Story:  Captive bred in 2004 at the World Bird Sanctuary in St. Louis Missouri.  Artemus is the largest species of owl in the world.  She is the European cousin to the American great horned owl.  She is imposing with her large orange eyes, six-plus foot wingspan and serious expression.  A powerful bird at 5 pounds; she is an imprint and flies in our programs, especially our after dark ‘Night Eyes” owl programs.  She calls for her falconers with her ‘contact’ call, waving her head around to listen and locate our position.  She also sometimes hoots back or with us as well.
